Score Valves "Red Hot Chili Pipers" served the Best Tasting Chili....
The heavy showers that fell all over the country on Saturday and left a number of areas underwater failed the dampen the proceedings at the Petroleum Women’s Club 20th Annual Chili and Chutney Cook Off, held at St John’s Ambulance Headquarters in Port-of-Spain.
Thirteen teams in the energy sector took part in the day’s, including Best Chili Dish, Best Tasting Chutney, Men/Women and Mixed Beer Races, Best Spirited Team, Best Table Decor, Best T-shirt, Best Stage Performance and Best Team Queen competitions.
The teams taking part came from AON Energy Caribbean Ltd (Chili Devils), Baker Hughes Trinidad Ltd (Rise of the Duck), bpTT (Horse Power/Where there is energy there is bpTT), Fluor Daniel (Chili Chili Bang Bang), NM Wood Group (Hot Spot — Taste of Emergency), Repsol (Repsol, D’ Hottest Spot), Schlumberger (Fire Down Below), Score Valves (Red Hott Chili Pipers), Skyline Freight (Sky See/SF River Lime), Superior Energy (D Chili Outlaws... D Hot, D Tasty, D Wanted), Trinidad Trophies (Louie on Fire), Tucker Energy Services Ltd (Tucker Wotless Curry Ducks) and Worley Parsons (Worley Parsons Chili Smurfs).
However just around 2 pm, the rains came and were unrelenting.
Participants by this time decided to make the best of the event and moved from under their tents, mixed with members of their fellow teams and merrily danced in the rain to sweet local music that came from the DJ.
The highlight of the evening was the stage performance competition.
The NM Wood Group took the top
prize after giving a highly entertaining parody of Ian Alleyne’s Crime Watch programme.
Other prizes given out on the day were as follows: Best Tasting Chili — Score Valves, Most Unique Chili — Skyline Freight, Best Tasting Chutney — Fluor Daniel, Most Unique Chutney — Repsol, Most Spirited Team — Repsol, Best Table Decor — Superior Energy, Best T-shirt — Tucker Energy, Best Stage Performance — Neal and Massy Wood Group and Best Team Queen — Fluor Daniel.
After the prize-giving ceremony patrons were treated to performances by Denise Belfon, Ghetto Flex, Blaxx and Dil-E-Nadan. Needless to say, the rain never subsided and the party went on, oblivious to the very inclement weather.
