‘Power of a Dream’ at Assumption
By ANGELA PIDDUCK Friday, June 22 2012 Twenty-five-year-old Rhian Guerrero has been accepted to compete in the 15th annual World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood, California, in early July. Guerrero, who has been studying music and voice in London for the past six years and is now back home, will represent Trinidad and Tobago in the category of “song.” In order to raise funds for Guerrero, who is a member of the Assumption Church Choir at Maraval, a most enjoyable concert “The Power of a Dream” will be mounted on Sunday coming, June 23, at the church, starting at 6.30 pm. “Short” and “Sweet for so” is how well-known singer Juliet Eckel describes the 1 hour and 15 minute concert “with no intermission.” Young and very beautiful voices, singing solos, duets and quartets of all the very popular well-loved songs, both inspirational and uplifting, will be performed by Guerrero, Stephanie Nahous, Wendell Constantine, Marsha Woodley, Chloe Pollonais, Jean Marc Tardieu and Lesley Lewis Alleyne. “This is a wonderful, educational as well as musical, opportunity for Rhian” says Eckel “and we are trying to help him with part of his costs for this competition – a golden opportunity for one of our future musical leaders to experience this great two weeks of learning and socialising and competing with similar young artistes from all over the world, and then to pass on his fantastic experience to his peers.”
