IN commemoration of the 2012 Summer Olympics currently taking place in London, England, students and staff members of St Peter’s Private Primary School in Pointe-a-Pierre recently hosted their own version of this international prestigious competition.

Entitled “Olympic Fun Day,” students indeed had a day of fun-filled events at Guaracara Park. The day began with a symbolic Olympic torch run from Petrotrin to Guaracara, said Michelle George who is one of the teachers at the school.

Classes represented 14 countries of their choice, including England, USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, India, Australia, Jamaica, Ethiopia and Canada.Trinidad and Tobago gold medallist, Hasely Crawford, addressed the children on the importance of cultivating values of fair play, discipline and dedication through sports, after which he formally declared the event open.

Pupils participated in events like “Ducky Walky,” “Hoop Dance,” “Hurdling,” “Dress Up” and “Balloon Race.”

The events culminated with an Olympic Closing ceremony and parade of teams, and the lowering of the Trinidad and Tobago flag.
