Community groups enjoy regional films

Monday, August 20 2012

The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (TTFC) along with non-governmental organisations, community based organisations and other community groups hosted screenings of local and regional films which comprise the Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase 2012 (TCFS) as a “family” event to entertain and educate.

Over 400 persons have enjoyed public screenings of the TCFS 2012 through a series of partnerships with various Regional Corporations, The Toco Foundation, UWI and NIHERST among others.

Audiences have responded quite favourably and have requested more community-based screenings of this nature throughout the year.

The films have been described as “excellent” and “enjoyable” and the overall experience as “very fun and educational”.

The TCFS is a programme initiated by Muestra Itinerante de Cine del Caribe in Cuba with the support of UNESCO, in which films produced by Caribbean and Latin American filmmakers are selected for screening in several Caribbean countries. For 2012, there are 32 films in the Showcase.

The films cover a range of stories from countries including Bahamas, Brazil, Venezuela, Jamaica and of course Trinidad and Tobago, to name a few. The synopses of all films are available at www.trinidadandtobagofilm.com

These films are travelling through Trinidad and Tobago for the month of August. For more information on TCFS, local films or the TT Film Industry contact the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company at 625-3456 or write to info@trinidadandtobagofilm.com.

Meanwhile, the Filme Caribe series continues with the screening of Prepared To Fight, a film about labour pioneer Tubal Uriah “Buzz” Butler tomorrow (Tuesday August 21) at The Little Carib Theatre, Woodbrook from 6.30 pm.
