Sunil Persad welcomes guests....
A blue moon is an extra full moon that appears in a subdivision of a year, either the third of four full moons in a season or, recently, a second full moon in a month of the common calendar. Metaphorically, a “blue moon” is a rare event, as in the expression “Once in a blue moon.”
Hence the reason that local agents for Blue Moon Ale, carefully selected August 20, 2013, a day of an astrological blue moon to officially launch the first craft beer in Trinidad and Tobago at the palatial Aria Nightclub on Tuesday.
Sunil Persad, VP, Business Development at distributors NWT Enterprises Limited, told the gathering at the private reception, “Today we’re launching Blue Moon Belgium White, a very unique beer, with unique ingredients; white oats that provide the creaminess, orange peel that delivers aroma and taste and coriander which compliments the orange character.”
He added that Blue Moon is an award winning beer that remains best in class at the most recognised beer event, the Great American Beer Fest.
Persad then told guests about head brewmaster and founder, Keith Villa, who first created Blue Moon® Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale back in 1995 in downtown Denver, Colorado, using the highest quality ingredients like Valencia orange peel for a subtle sweetness, then added oats and wheat to create a smooth, creamy finish, and as a final touch, he garnished the beer with an orange slice to heighten the citrus aroma and taste.
On hand to launch the artfully crafted Belgian Ale was foreign distributor Luis Mesa, Regional Field Sales & Marketing Manager at Molson Coors Brewing Company, who introduced a Blue Moon video presentation that was then aired to educate guests further on the product that all started with American Villa’s idea to craft a beer inspired by the flavourful Belgian Wits that he enjoyed while studying brewing in Belgium.
So how did the ale get its name? The story be told, one day, when workers at the brewery were tasting the beer, their boss called out saying: “You know, a beer that tastes this good comes around only once in a blue moon.”
And with that phrase ringing in their ears, the Blue Moon Brewing Company was born, and Blue Moon Belgian White.
On the night, Chef Amit Raval of Amtar Fine Foods was asked to prepare a dip to pair with Blue Moon. He did so labelling it Blue Moon Shrimp Production, that comprised shrimp stock, olive oil, chilli, garlic, salt, fresh cracked pepper and of course Blue Moon.
Guests eagerly dipped their finger food that had been specially prepared by six top neighbouring restaurants to pair with the Blue Moon Ale, into the mixture and found that they all worked well with the Ale.
The food came from Shanghai Chinese Restaurant - Veggie Rolls, Trotters - Maracas Bites and Pop Corn Chicken, All Out Sports Bar – Glazed Chicken Skewers, V&J German Bar - Pork Schmitzel, Mor Vino Sushi Bar – Spicy Tuna Sushi Rolls and La Cantina – Smoke Salmon Pizza. Then as guests left, they all did so with a six-pack of Blue Moon Ale courtesy NWT Enterprises Ltd.
