ANGOSTURA AROMATIC BITTERS Monday, June 26 2006
GOLD SPONSOR AT CHIC
The world famous product which is produced in the small island of Trinidad, Angostura aromatic bitters, is sponsoring this year’s CHIC/Taste of the Caribbean 2006 competition being held in Miami Florida from June 25th to June 28th.
The product will be used in all preparation of food by the participating chefs and in the cocktails made by the competing bartenders. A special award will also be granted for the best use of bitters by one of the 15 culinary teams that will be participating in the event. The competing countries are Anguilla National, Anguilla and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St Lucia, St Martin, Suriname, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and US Virgin Islands. Angostura aromatic bitters was created in 1824 by a German doctor who lived in Venezuela. When he died, his sons brought the business to Trinidad where it resides today. Like Coca-Cola, the recipe of the product is known to no more than five people in the world. The product is in 148 countries around the world and is known as one of the key elements in any bar. Bartenders have confirmed that it enhances the flavour of cocktails and that it is a prerequisite for any bar. Angostura recently held the finals of a global cocktail competition in Tobago with bartenders coming from France, Russia, the UK and Trinidad and Tobago. All the bartenders raved about the product and of course were very creative with its use in the competition.
The product has also become well known to chefs around the world and is used in many sauces, marinades and in various other ways. Angostura has even produced a cook book called The Taste that Changed the World, giving recipes using the product and this has been well received.
In addition to the gold sponsorship, the company has sponsored the competing Trinidad and Tobago team from the start of the competition in Trinidad to their stint in Miami.
The company knows that Angostura aromatic bitters is a unique product and having seen the many ways in which it could be used, they wish to share it with the world. The positive response, over the years, to the product worldwide is overwhelming.
