They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and because Caroline Williams wanted to add a personal touch to Christmas cards to friends and family, she came up with an interesting concept.

The hobby of pressing flowers is practiced by many women, both locally and abroad, mostly for sentimental reasons, mainly when a loved one sends a bouquet.

So Williams decided to use what she had practiced for years, to give some creativity to her greeting cards.

Mainly self-taught, she describes herself as a botanical artist, who has developed a unique style of pressing flowers, leaves and foliage from our environment.

She is a member of the Women In Art Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the Art Society, and has participated in several group exhibitions displaying her work.

Caroline admits she is truly inspired by the abundance of flora and fauna in this country and promises, “I will continue to preserve and design beautiful collages to keep these alive.

“My goal is to raise an awareness and appreciation of nature which we so often take for granted.”

She describes Trinidad and Tobago as “an extremely beautiful twin island. Just look at our lush mountains and hills after a rainfall, they are a sight to behold.”

Her work will be on display at Framed! Art Gallery, 11 Sinclair Hill, Diego Martin from September 30 to October 14.
