‘Panyard Sensations’ launched

Tuesday, March 13 2007

This year’s edition of Panyard Sensations will be staged to coincide with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.

Visiting cricket fans and media will be able to enjoy exposure to the sound of our national musical instrument during their stay in Trinidad to witness warm-up cricket matches with music provided by three top steel orchestras — including 2007 National Panorama large band champion, Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars.

Members of the public will also get a rare opportunity for a rare post-carnival pan music treat at the steelband mini-series which kicks off tomorrow at the PCS Starlift House of Music, Mucurapo Road, from 7.30 pm.

The presentation comprises three panyard concerts. The Starlift show will additionally feature a short opening tableau to give our guests a glimpse of Carnival characters (a mix of traditional and contemporary costuming) dancing to the music of tassa drumming, before the steelband performance starts.

The second concert series features Panorama champions, Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra, at their Duke Street panyard on Sunday from 6 pm, and the third and final show will be held at the bpTT Renegades panyard on Friday March 23, from 8 pm.

The concerts are scheduled to run for 110 minutes, with two 45-minute segments of pan performances punctuated by a 20-minute intermission, during which visitors and locals alike will have an opportunity to view selected images of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Tourism development Company is again sole sponsor of the concert series in collaboration with Pan Trinbago. Admission to each concert is $25.
