Learie Joseph comedy concert on Sunday

By SEETA PERSAD Friday, April 27 2007

KING of comedy, Learie Joseph, is doing it again. He has prepared an elaborate script filled with new jokes designed to knock Trinidadians off their seats. Having delivered before a full house in Queen’s Hall last Sunday, he is now taking his show to Pier 1 in Chaguaramas on Sunday from 8 pm.

“There is so much happening in this country and the Caribbean. I mean everyday I see new material for comedy,” he said. Joseph said the Caribbean is the base for comedy as there are many people in authority fouling up in their duties. “From the neighbour next door to the taxi-driver and the housewife, there is always something happening that makes it a good comedy piece in the making,” he said.

Learie will be testing the audience with jokes he is preparing to take to New York and Canada later this year.

Also scheduled for the night’s entertainment is former Presentation College student Gary Jagdeo who has prepared his speeches and is about to call a parliament session as he impersonates high profile political figures Prime Minister Patrick Manning, UNC heavyweights Basdeo Panday and Jack Warner, COP leader Winston Dookeran, and Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Along with Peter Joseph (no relation), Learie will play the role of a Trinidad and Tobago policeman interacting with an official of Scotland Yard, depicting the clash of cultures which confronts the foreigner as he tackles crime in Trinidad.

Rising comedian Delores also joins Learie on stage to present their take on different scenes in the school system. The two have been rehearsing for long hours to get the scenes right for the stage.

Learie will then take the act to Centre Point Mall in Chagaunas next Friday at 8pm.

Tickets for the Chaguaramas show are available at Crosby’s, Food Masters, Michelle’s (Arima), Cleve’s, Central Electrical Supplies and Kam’s in Long Circular Mall.
