INDIAN MISSIONARY Vivekdas Acharya urged people gathered at a recent event at the Arena Road Recreation Ground, Freeport, to pay attention to young people who are living lives of sin.
He said based on the Sant Kabir philosophy, there is physical, emotional and mental pain causing suffering, separation and death.
“The great saint Kabir explains the cause of these miseries. He was specific in saying that man has failed to control the senses and this is manifested into greed, anger, power, pride, lust and attachment,” Vivekdas explained.
He added that these traits are overpowering man and this has led to many misfortunes, disputes and division.
“Then the children are caught in this race of the parents and the leaders and they find themselves looking for ways and means to attain this so-called luxury by any means possible,” he said as he appealed to people to do everything in their power to save the youths by setting good examples.
“We must turn to God wholeheartedly and beg for mercy for the children as they are easily influenced by so much negativity in society,” he urged.
Vivekdas said while there are several outreach programmes for young people, there is need for parent to do devotion in the homes, in the schools and in the churches.
He told the gathering that the Kabir teachings are universal and show the path of ultimate truth to all, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion. He outlined the teaching of Kabir saying that he sees God in the heart of every soul without discrimination.
He called on leaders and parents to take another look at the teachings of Kabir because they contain the answers to life’s most complicated questions.
The gathering was attended by MP for the area Dr Hamza Rafeek, author David Lorenza, Jagnarain Sitaram, Professor Rattanlal Hangloo, and Nehru Beepat.
