Members of the team "Pak-ah-lal" show they have what it takes to cook a great "curry duck"....
WITH NAMES like “Duck Blazers”, “Duckers”, “Duck Vics” and “Curry Ducksters”, there is no denying that creativity was at its best on Sunday in Chaguaramas where the 103 FM Curry Duck Competition once again attracted thousands. Digicel Trinidad and Tobago says it is pleased once again to be associated with the event which has become a fixture on the local entertainment calendar.
From mid-day on Sunday the crowds made their way to Chagville, Chaguaramas to take in some sea breeze, some top local entertainment and lots of “curry duck”.
Not to be left out were Digicel employees Ryun Singh and Kiev Ramdial from the company’s technical department. They led their team “Pak-ah-lal” which prided itself in coming up with what they say is the best curry duck recipe ever, “Digicel Duck”.
Ryun tells us this is the first time he and his friends have entered the competition and insists it was worth every minute. He says they thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie, music and friendly competition and will definitely enter again next year when they hope even more of their colleagues will join in the fun.
Digicel’s Sponsorship and Public Relations Manager, Marita Laurent says she was thrilled when she found out that staff members from Digicel’s technical department would be entering the competition.
“It was obvious that they enjoyed themselves while at the same time emphasising the importance of team spirit which is the Digicel Way”
Laurent went on to say: “We recognise that the 103 curry duck competition is one of those events that brings people and families together and we would like to commend the station for the role it is playing in promoting local culture and for providing an entertainment option for citizens right here at home.”
Digicel sponsored prizes for the winners including a phone which was part of the first prize package.
Executive Director of 103 FM, Yaseen Rahaman explains: “The curry duck competition basically reflects the cultural traditions of the Indian market. What we have sought to do through a partnership with corporate sponsors like Digicel is to bring into the national landscape a basic feature that has always been part of the market.”
According to Rahaman: “Curry Duck is now a branded event and is a strategy that continues to work well. It affords the listeners in the Indian community and the national community, an opportunity to showcase their talent in a space they call their own.”
In the end it was Duck Vics who came away with the prize for the best Vegetarian Dhal while the winner of the Curry Duck competition was “Count 3 and Duck”.
