MIT professor heads Caribbean Diaspora

CARDINAL WARDE, Professor in Electrical Engineering at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology was installed as the president of the Caribbean Diaspora Association (CDA) of Scientists, Technologists and Entrepreneurs by Fitzgerald Jeffrey, Minister of State in the Ministry of Science and Technology and Tertiary Education at its recent launch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Port-of-Spain.

Among those present at the launch, which was organised by CARISCIENCE jointly with the Ministry of Science and Technology and Tertiary Education, were Prof Walter Erdelen, assistant director general (Natural Science) UNESCO; Navin Chandarpal, adviser to Bharrat Jagdeo, president of Guyana and Dr Arnoldo Ventura, adviser to the prime minister of Jamaica.

In his keynote address, Jeffrey lauded this commendable effort which would galvanise the tremendous resources of the Diaspora in a structured manner so that it can play a major role in Caribbean integration and development.

Among the other officers installed were Prof Harold Ramkissoon vice president and ambassador at Large; Dr Basil Burke vice president, USA; Prof Baldwin Mootoo vice president, Caribbean; Dr Brian Tom vice president, UK; Prof Suresh Narine vice president, Canada; Ravi Ramkissoon Information and Communication Officer; and Prof John Paul Clarke secretary/treasurer.
