New works from Beston and Lobo
By ANNE HILTON Monday, November 10 2008 “Where does one go from here?” was the question I asked of Gaby Beston on reviewing her first solo exhibition of large paintings of banana plants, ginger lilies, heliconias and assorted large leaves at Horizons Art Gallery in February 2005. Figs and heliconias featured in the same artist’s work in a joint exhibition with Danielle Du Boulay in November 2006. And in a joint exhibition with Enrique Lobo that opened in Horizons Art Gallery on Tuesday, November 4, leaves and flowers of the larger members of the backyard plant kingdom are still the chosen subjects for Gaby Beston’s brushes. Oh well, if they sell, and it appears they do at between $2,500 and $15,000, who could blame her for sticking to her last? I leave photographs of her work to speak for her.
