Vincey soca stars for Atlanta Carnival

Saturday, April 25 2009

FRESH FROM her most successful carnival experience in Trinidad and Tobago, Vincentian/Trinidadian Zolah is getting ready to unleash her “Wine Up On Meh” hit along with other selections at the 2009 edition of the Atlanta Carnival next month.

Vincentian counterparts “Nookie Man” Jamesy P and current Soca Monarch of St Vincent Skinny Fabulous will also share the stage with Zolah, who was a finalist at this year’s million-dollar International Soca Monarch competition in Port-of-Spain on February 20.

Zolah’s most recent release (“Wine Up On Meh”) remains a huge hit with Caribbean people all over the world and she expects to explode at the Atlanta Festival. The Vincy trio will appear at the Caribbean Festival Village situated at “The Masquerade” on 695 North Avenue in downtown Atlanta on May 23 along with several other regional soca stars. Also carded to appear on that show are Peter Ram from Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda’s Red Hot Flames, The Virgin Islands Jam Tyme Band, Boston-based soca diva Jadine and KMC, Patch and Iwer George from Trinidad and Tobago.

The following night, the second of the two-day event, a star-studded slate of soca artistes is expected to light up “The Masquerade” venue, touted as Atlanta’s premier downtown outdoor facility. That playbill comprises multiple Road March and International Soca Monarch Austin SuperBlue Lyons, David Michael Rudder, Shadow, Dominica’s former Calypso and Soca Monarch Hunter, and internationally famed Vincentian entertainer Kevin Lyttle (of “Turn Me On” fame). Expert accompaniment for all of these performers will be ably provided by Vincent Rivers and D Soca Unit, the backing band at the prestigious 2009 International Soca Monarch contest in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
