SAN FERNANDO resident Suzette Mohammed has been waiting for close to two years on the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to call her.

She said she and her sister applied eight years ago for a new house and in 2008, she went for an interview.

More than a year has passed since then but Mohammed is still waiting.

“I am still waiting on the call. Why is it I cannot get a house if I fulfilled the requirements? I have visited the Prime Minister’s office in San Fernando a dozen times and I am still not getting any answers,” Mohammed said.

She and her sister currently rent an apartment at Coconut Drive, Palmiste, with their parents but they are being told they have to move out since the landlord wants to do repair work on the apartment.

“Since last year she kept telling us she wants to do the work. We have been running up and down trying to get a place to stay. The money we are paying in rent could have been used to pay for our own home.”

Renetta Jones, communications manager at the HDC told Newsday the corporation was aware of the problem.
