Help is one the way for Margaret Ramkissoon, of Pleasantville, who pleaded for a lighter prosthetic limb.

Ramkissoon’s plight was highlighted in Newsday on Thursday, and yesterday one concerned citizen said he would provide Ramkissoon with a lighter a prosthetic leg.

The man, of St John’s Village, San Fernando, did not want his name to be used. He said the limb belonged to his mother, who has since died and when he saw Ramkissoon’s story, he wanted to assist.

“I saw the article and decided I wanted to donate the leg on my mother’s behalf. I wanted to put it to good use.

My mother, who passed one year ago waited a long time to get it. It is also an expensive one,” the man said.

When she received the news, Ramkissoon, 53, was elated. “I am very thankful. I do not know how this one is made-up but only its size make the difference. It will be a great help,” she said.

Two years ago Ramkissoon’s left leg was amputated following an infection which had left her wheelchair bound. She has a prosthetic leg but it is too heavy for her and she was unable to afford a new, lighter leg.
