WITH the country now officially experiencing a meteorological drought, Moruga residents are renewing calls for the Government to make good on its election promise to repair the old pipelines in the area so that they can get water.

There is a desalination plant in La Lune Village, Moruga, which serves the surrounding areas as far as Penal Rock Road.

Residents are complaining that they are not getting water because the old pipelines are corroded and in other areas there are none.

They said in 1997, officials from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) promised to repair the pipelines and work began in the Remy Trace area.

Several residents were asked to pay a connection fee and they did.

They also said in the lead up to the 2007 General Election, they were assured that providing them with water was a number-one priority, but they are still waiting three years later.

“There are water hydrants ever since I could remember and no water in them. They run some PVC pipelines in Remy Trace, most people paid for a connection and that was it. I understand that the old lines burst at three different areas because of landslips,” one resident said.
