Cars on Carib Street pavementSaturday, November 21 2009
THE EDITOR: I am writing this letter to highlight a current problem experienced by pedestrians on a daily basis on the pavement opposite Grant School on the bottom of Carib Street.
On a typical afternoon, this is the scene around Grant School. Two lanes of traffic flowing around Grant School and two lanes of traffic coming from High Street all attempting to drive up Carib Street adding to that, one lane of cars parked around Grant School and another lane of cars parked on the pavement opposite Grant School.
This has caused a massive traffic pile-up but this is not the issue I am about to highlight. I would like to highlight the problem of the cars parked on the pavement. I am a student of a secondary school in San Fernando and every afternoon I must use this pavement in order to reach Grant School as I have to meet and accompany my young cousin home. However, I am forced to put my life at risk and walk in the roadway because inconsiderate parents park their vehicles on the pavement! I must say, it is totally disgusting and rude of these parents.
This afternoon, for the second time in two weeks, I was almost knocked down while innocently standing on the pavement.
An inconsiderate parent insisted he park on the pavement where I was standing. He started to honk his horn at me insisting I move off the pavement so he could park his car. I informed him that the pavement was not for cars to park but for pedestrians and this man got angry and drove his car right up to me, actually touching the hem of my skirt! Needless to say I was horrified!
I would greatly appreciate it if the relevant authorities in charge please look into this situation. I would like to see the pavement free of vehicles and for the purpose which it was intended. I am begging the relevant authorities to please look into this matter as I would like to be able to walk on the pavement once again.
