Stick to your job

Thursday, September 9 2010

THE EDITOR: As I sat in the long line of traffic on the “Creek” awaiting the opportunity to get across the bridge on my way to Point Fortin, it crossed my mind that we are so much more fortunate than those people in China with their 1500K pile up! But then I started thinking about how long it is taking to get this bridge repaired and the inconvenience that it is causing to the flow of traffic between San Fernando and La Brea — Palo Seco — Fyzabad etc, etc.

Naturally my thoughts then turned to whether or not Mr Warner can really handle three or more portfolios at the same time and I came to the conclusion, one that I have held for some time, that one man concentrating on one job will accomplish more than one man attempting to do two or more at the same time.

If anyone takes the time to read Plato’s Republic they will soon realise that this is not a new idea and that Socrates proved it conclusively in his own way. For example, look at our own hero Brian Charles Lara who is a fantastic all round sportsman — cricket, soccer, golf, etc, etc (any ball game) but concentrated on cricket and thereby became the best batsman that the world has seen.

Mr Warner needs to appreciate that a good Minister of Transport concentrates on roads, drainage etc and leaves the other ministries to look after themselves. Our Prime Minister was quite right in saying that the Cabinet members need to talk among themselves and express opinions but leave the final decisions to those who are responsible to the nation.

In this case Mr Warner “get that bridge repaired” and even have an inquiry as to why it has taken this length of time to be completed.
