THE EDITOR: I was a recent patient of Ward 24, bed 21, Cubicle 6, at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) from Wednesday, September 1 to Friday September 3, in for left inguinal hernia repair; an operation that takes nothing out but which repairs a weak part of the lower stomach to keep the inguinal gut in its place. A simple procedure, and well done!

This is my public tribute to my own Dr David Ali of Arima who correctly diagnosed the condition early in 2009 and pointed me to the Surgical Outpatients’ Clinic of the PoSGH, where I met Ms Williams, Consultant Surgeon who, after tests, confirmed the LIH and booked me for surgery on August 25, last, my having attended the Clinic on November 9, 2009. I actually had surgery on September 1 2010.

I know some of the nurses and doctors by name, but names don’t matter here, as the team work is splendid and professional and geared to offering only the best comfort and care to all the patients. They are very supportive of each other as they go about their daily, often thankless tasks. The Ward is always dynamic…Student nurses, interns, assorted aides and caregivers, doctors and Consultants are always visible and interacting with each other and the patients. To the staff and caregivers of every category on Ward 24, “May Almighty God always attend your Stations and your work…”

And to the patients that I left in Cubicle 6 after my surgery on Wednesday, September 1, “May Almighty God’s Grace, Peace and Mercy speed your healing.”
