THE EDITOR: Please permit me to express my heartfelt thanks to a truly dedicated teacher.

A lot of fanfare and pomp is being made about the top SEA performers and I congratulate them all. However not much attention if any, is given to the students that don’t get their choice of schools.

I am a single mother with the responsibility of raising a son that provides a lot of challenges at times. The friends he keeps and the activities he involves himself in leaves me with a great deal of stress. However my son has a teacher, Mr Jagassar from the Ragoonanan Road Government Primary School and he did magic with my son.

Mr Jagassar’s efforts to improve my son academically and behaviour-wise paid off as my son passed his SEA exam. And even though my son was in the Standard Five B class and was considered a slow learner Mr Jagassar made him feel like a normal student with his words of encouragement and perpetual support.

Today I am proud of my son’s success. And while he did not pass for a prestige school like the students in the Standard Five A class I will always be grateful to that gem of a teacher at Ragoonanan Road.
