THE EDITOR: As we all celebrate the holidays let us spare a thought for those among us who are in grief and sorrow for various reasons including that which have been inflicted upon them by health care workers in our country.

As politicians master the craft of being braggarts while casting blame on others for everything they cannot grin at, our health care workers are motivated by the mighty dollar. Makes no difference whether it’s the private or public sector. What was previously simple as making a sada roti is now gravely detrimental to have a baby in this country for both mother and child. It’s like motor manslaughter on the road. A simple cavity fill-in at the dentist can see you end up in the ICU at the hospital with a blood infection fighting for your life.

Within the health sector in this country, cover-ups is the name of the game for incompetence and downright negligence committed by those entrusted with saving lives.

Male or female healthcare workers, doesn’t matter. Imagine a healthcare worker preferring to respect the wishes of a man starving to death as though she subscribes to the practices of Dr Jack Kevorkian, and no authority takes her to task.

No administration has been able to make them accountable for their blatant tardiness, where many are either drunk on the job or their minds are in the casinos.

There is however, a very minute ray of hope as among them all, are some really genuine and compassionate human beings in that profession to which we must be grateful.
