THE EDITOR: We the Special Reserve Police Officers attached to a unit downtown Port-of-Spain have been full time for five years.

We were on contract for the first 18 months after which we continued full time duties, we are now supposed to be entitled to the $1,000 offered to us by the Minister of National Security but the Finance Branch is now saying we are not entitled to the $1,000 or the raise of salary.

Why is this? We need some answers from Minister Jack Warner. We are the unit that has been holding down the City of Port-of-Spain for the past five years, we have rid the City of quite a number of snatchers, held men with firearms and just recently my colleague held a man for cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

When it comes to working us, no problem, work the SRPs, but when it’s time for benefits there are always some loopholes not to pay and nobody ever heeds our cries, not even the Association. We always have to fight for ourselves. Please Mr Minister, step in.
