THE EDITOR: I listened and read the thoughts of many people concerning the disarray with the “pastor’s daughter” at the Zen nightclub. But delinquent parents and guardians must be held responsible for their minors. Imagine after that episode no charge was laid. Trinidad and Tobago is really a paradise.

Who should be our children’s role model when they do not get moral grounding from their parents? The worst is full of passionate intensity in ignoring the criminal culture which has entrapped our children.

Video, TV, radio and politics are now part of vulgar entertainment, a Carnival delusion, while the apocalypse unfolds daily. I know there are some mothers who believe they must play the double role of mother and father even if the father established his commitment to the home. And when given the opportunity to take command they were unsuccessful. When parents set a bad precedent with their children it usually leads to a predicament, then to “crocodile tears” and then the expectation of sympathy.

The Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee said the American hip-hop singer Akon had “crossed the line” when he engaged Danah in a lewd dance at the Zen nightclub. Is the Minister not living in sweet TT to know that calypsonians, soca artistes, dub, rock, soul, hip-hop singers and even bandits crossed the line many years ago under the banner of culture?

They are the mentors who train our children not their parents and teachers. Radio and entertainment lyrics are now giving the values, moves and moral curriculum our children adopt. The media has taken over the role of the church. The media is the emotional glue holding us together as the church once did. It is training children to be violent, promiscuous and amoral. We are here mortifying ourselves with a Medieval Western concept of holiness, stifling children’s sensuality with a pretentious holiness, which helps explain the attraction of the youth to drugs, sex and deviance.
