An investigation has been ordered at the St Joseph Police Station, after four unregistered firearms and a quantity of narcotics were discovered in the office of a senior officer at the station.

Sources revealed that a search was carried out in the office where the firearms and narcotics, which had not been logged at the station, were seized.

The senior officer was questioned at length by Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) detectives who later released the officer until further investigations.

Among the firearms recovered were a Beretta pistol and shot gun, which were reportedly hidden in the ceiling of the office. CIU detectives were conducting enquiries to determine whether the items were used to plant on suspects in order to secure arrests and convictions.

Investigators also believe the weapons and narcotics could have been articles seized during raids in the jurisdiction of the station, but never used in prosecutions against the suspects..

The senior officer, meantime, reportedly denied knowledge of the items and told investigators the items may have been put there by other officers trying to get him out of the Police Service.

But whichever way these investigations pan out, it is expected to reveal rogue officers within the Police Service.

Attempts to reach senior officers to comment on the development proved futile.
