OVER $1,500 was spent on medication for Chinese national, Quan Took Wong, including the antibiotic — Ospamox. However, officials at the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) yesterday refunded the monies to them.

Speaking with Newsday yesterday, Chinese interpreter, Joe Chan, confirmed that he had spent $1,526 in medication for Wong and Pin Cao Xuen.

He also revealed that he was called in by officials at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, NWRHA who ‘‘apologised” and “refunded the money”.

On Wednesday, Wong was given a prescription by the hospital’s doctor to have the antibiotic Ospamox purchased at a private pharmacy because there were claims that the hospital’s dispensary was ‘‘out of stock’’. However, Newsday was told that the hospital’s dispensary was re-stocked yesterday, and that Wong will be given the medication from the dispensary when needed.

Wong’s condition was said to be improving slowly, but according to medical sources, the medical doctors were awaiting the swelling in the jaw to ‘‘go down’’ so that they can perform re-corrective surgery.

“Wong’s swelling can take roughly about another week or two, to go down. The doctors may have to do further tests and for sure, operation on the jaw, which is believed to have been fractured,” the source said.

Newsday was told that officials of the China Society were said to be keeping in contact with officials at the TT Police Service, on any new developments.
