Jairagie Deolal, 43, of Cunupia, who has been missing since Wednesday after she left home to go to the Chaguanas Magistrates' Court....

A 43-YEAR-OLD woman of Cunupia who was almost killed by a man in April this year mysteriously disappeared on Wednesday after she left her home to go to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court to have a protection order renewed.

Concerned family members who fear the worst, claim that the police are dragging their feet on the incident and are pleading with Acting Commissioner of Police, James Philbert to intervene in the matter.

According to a relative, Jairagie Deolal, left her home last Wednesday morning to renew a protection order against a man she had not seen for the past few months.

However, Deolal never returned home from the court. She was last seen wearing a yellow v-neck short sleeved t-shirt and a black ankle-length pencil pants.

The relative said that Deolal had become involved with a man from the area, who had become abusive towards her. The relative revealed that on April 14, 2009 the man took Deolal to a trace in the Aranjuez area where he allegedly attempted to kill her.

A report was lodged at the Barataria Police Station about that incident.

The relative said the suspect was subsequently arrested and brought to the Cunupia Police Station on Friday morning by one of his relatives who found him hiding in the Las Lomas area, however the suspect was released later that day due to a lack of evidence.

An officer of the Cunupia Police Station yesterday confirmed the missing person report and also confirmed that they held a man for questioning, who was later released pending further investigations.

The officer assured that they were doing all in their power to find Deolal. Anyone with information on Deolal’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Cunupia Police Station at 665 3080 or 671 4100 or 800 TIPS (8477) or 555.
