ON THE MEND: Pin Cao Xuen, 41, rests at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital yesterday. He and another Chinese national were badly beaten by bandits on ...

ONE OF the badly beaten Chinese nationals, Quan Took Wong, was yesterday discharged from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH). Quan who underwent reconstructive surgery to his jaw, at St Clair Medical Hospital in St James on Tuesday, was yesterday said to be in good condition and was subsequently discharged shortly before noon.

Quan’s co-worker, Pin Cao Xuen remains warded at the PoSGH but is recovering “at a satisfactory rate”, according to doctors. When Newsday visited Cao, he was relaxing on his hospital bed and making a few calls on his cellular phone. He said he was feeling much better although “my head still hurts”.

“I feel pain in my head. I am able to walk with the help from nurses. I lift my left leg by myself but not for long. I hope to walk again,” he said.

Cao said he is 41-years old and is a father of two children — a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.

Not wanting to speak about the incident which left him and Wong in hospital, Cao said in halting English, “That gone. It in past. I just want to feel better and leave hospital.”

According to reports, at about 8 am on August 8, three men entered the Diamond Members Club and went to the upper floor where the casino is located and proceeded to ransack it. They later confronted the two Chinese nationals and badly beat them with a crowbar, leaving them for dead before escaping.
