Scarred: Scars are visible on the right arm of one-month-old Faith Davis after she was discharged from hospital yesterday. ...

BABY Faith Davis was discharged from the Wendy Fitzwilliam Children’s Hospital, Mt Hope, yesterday after doctors removed bandages from her right hand and wrist as she recovered from skin grafts for burns on her arm.

The one-month-old girl went home with her parents Earl and Maureen Davis, of Brothers Road New Grant, because the couple had to care for their five other children who must go back to school next week. They refused to leave Faith at the hospital any longer.

The couple said doctors prescribed an antibiotic cream to treat one of the skin grafts that is not healing well due to a bacterial infection.

From this week, Faith must attend the Children’s Clinic of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where the children’s hospital is located, although doctors said her wounds were healing.

Earl, 39, said Faith was also officially discharged yesterday from San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) where she received the burns when intravenous medications seeped out of the tiny veins of her right hand into the surrounding tissue.

Skin specialists recommended skin grafts and physiotherapy to treat the burns and since then Faith underwent two separate four-hour-long procedures in two weeks to treat the burns.

The couple said they have received no word from the Ministry of Health on compensation for Faith’s injuries and they still plan to sue the SFGH.

Attorney Anand Ramlogan was retained to pursue the case and Faith’s medical records will be sent to his office this week.

The couple thanked Tabaquite MP Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj and the public for the financial assistance and medical advice given while Faith was warded at both hospitals.
