Accident victims ‘out of danger’

By Invera Arjoon Tuesday, August 25 2009

Accident survivors of the deadly Mosquito Creek crash who are warded at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) are all said to be out of danger and coming along quite well, a senior hospital source revealed.

In addition head of anaesthetics at SFGH Dr Anand Chattergoon said both of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients, Videsh Ramsaran, 18, and Roger Ramkissoon 17, are now “out of the woods and have been placed at convalescence wards.”

Ramsaran was the last to be removed from ICU and placed in a ward said his mother Asha Ramsaran. “With the exception of a pelvic brace he is okay and have come a long way from where he was.”

Ramkissoon does not remember the accident and his relatives have refrained from saying anything to him.

Another accident survivor Rishi Ramlochan, 16, underwent surgery on Friday and was discharged on Saturday, while Henry Lange was also discharged over the weekend, the hospital official said.

Maxi driver Balliram Maharaj remains warded but is said to be showing improvement however a relative said they are also holding the truth from him.

Dr Chattergoon said Mahendra Maharaj, father of eight-year-old Sachin Maharaj, who died in the crash, has been granted permission to leave the SFGH for a short while today to attend Sachin’s funeral.

Relatives continue to pray for a miracle for his Sachin’s four-year-old brother Darshan who remains warded at the Wendy Fitzwilliam Children’s Hospital, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope still in a very serious condition.

A relative said they have requested police assistance today since they expect the funeral to be the largest thus far. Four victims of the crash have already been cremated.
