Acting Commis-sioner of Police James Philbert on Monday said the Police Service will move to begin fighting crime on a technological level as the levels of “cyber crimes” increase.

“That way, we will not only conquer crime with the use of manpower, but with technology which will be the same technology used by the criminals to perpetrate crimes,” he said.

Philbert hosted President George Maxwell Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning, their wives, ministers and other dignitaries at the Police Service cocktail reception held in honour of this country’s 47 years of Independence at the Police Administration Building, Port-of-Spain, Monday.

“Although 47 years of independence is remarkable, in a sense we are still a nation in its infancy and we are growing with growing pains. I will not hesitate to say however, we are not a failed or an intending to fail nation,” he said.

In an effort to fight crime, Philbert said, there is need for an understanding of this country’s history, as well as the history of where ancestors came from. He assured that despite the “noise and haste” the police service will get the crime situation under control.
