A POLICEMAN who was recently transferred from St Joseph Police Station, in light of the discovery of arms, ammunition and drugs at that station, was detained yesterday.

His arrest came after a search of the locker assigned to him at a Police Station in Northern Division, where he was transferred, contained guns and illicit drugs. The search of the locker took place at about 2 pm, after senior officers received certain information.

A senior officer described this latest ‘bust’ as, “in keeping with the continued crackdown on rogue elements within the Police Service.”

On August 8, four unregistered firearms and a quantity of narcotics were discovered in the ceiling of the office of a senior officer at St Joseph Police Sation. As a result, 38 officers were transferred from that station, but to date, none of them have been suspended, faced an internal disciplinary tribunal or faced criminal charges.

Four days ago, during another search of the St Joseph Police Station, detectives of the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) seized two shotguns, an undisclosed amount of ammunition and an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

One shotgun was found hidden behind the Property Room of the station while the other was hidden in a kitchen drawer.

Sources said the ammunition was found in a drawer in an office while the marijuana was found in a desk drawer in another office.

Investigations are continuing.
