Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard is now acting in the post of DPP.

Newsday understands Gaspard received a telephone call from Chief Justice Ivor Archie on Wednesday afternoon concerning the matter.

The seat of DPP officially became vacant at 4 pm on Wednesday, after Carla Brown-Antoine who had acted in the post since January 5, left to take up her appointment as a High Court judge.

Gaspard has been an Assistant DPP for the past 19 years.

Reports that his application to the substantive post was vetoed by Prime Minister Patrick Manning surfaced last week. The report was further cemented after the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) wrote to another applicant and informed him that the post of DPP would be re-advertised.
