TOBAGO residents have been frustrated by load-shedding by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commisison (TTEC) over the past few days, leaving some areas in darkness for hours.

One irate caller, who lives just outside Scarborough at Friends Field, lamented the power-cuts imposed on his area each night, typically from 8 pm to 11 pm.

He said TTEC had told residents the measures were necessary due to a damaged submarine cable feeding electricity from Trinidad to Tobago.

“Every night you have to sit down in the dark with nothing to do. It’s horrible,” he said.

He was upset that TTEC has allegedly refused to publish when it would be scheduling the blackouts.

The resident also complained that TTEC had last week promised to remedy the crisis by early this week, only for residents to now be told it will be done by early next week.

He lamented that for many years it had been recommended that Tobago be given its own power station, but that idea had largely been ignored, until now.

Newsday yesterday called TTEC but our calls were unanswered. Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief the Secretary, Orville London, was said to be in a function and unable to take our call.
