MALTA has established diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago. The ties were formalised during a ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 24 on the margins of the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and TT was signed by Malta Deputy Prime Minister. Dr Tonio Borg and Foreign Affairs Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon.

Speaking at last Thursday’s post-Cabinet news conference at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, Gopee-Scoon noted that Malta hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2005 and is currently seeking to strengthen its financial services sector. She said there were many areas of mutual cooperation which both countries could explore.
