TAKING THE TEST: A young boy, wearing a mask, is tested by a masked hospital official for the swine flu virus at San Fernando General Hospital yesterd...

AS LONG lines of people waited yesterday to be tested for the Influenza A H1N1 (swine flu) virus at San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH), hospital sources said the number of admittances for confirmed cases has significantly decreased with only a two-year-old boy and another person being the latest to be warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU), respectively.

At the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), a senior source said long lines have stopped and “we have just a trickle of persons seeking testing today.”

However, at the isolation ward there were five confirmed swine flu victims warded and undergoing aggressive treatment.

As three of the nation’s schools were closed, on Thursday due to one confirmed case in each of the schools, Newsday yesterday received unconfirmed reports that another Presbyterian school was affected.

School sources at the Rochard Douglas Presbyterian School, in Barrackpore claimed that a student tested positive for the virus.

General Secretary of the Presbyterian School Board Carlos Lakhan said he has heard of the case at the school, but has not been in contact with school officials and needs to investigate more before he can comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, school remained open yesterday at the Strange Village Early Childhood Care Centre, Cumuto North Trace, Barrackpore which neighbours the Rochard Douglas Presbyterian Primary as both schools are only separated by a playground.
