A 20-year-old man is warded in critical condition, fighting for his life, after “several loud explosions” were heard in the Maloney area Saturday evening.

Police report that shortly after 6 pm residents in the area contacted authorities after they heard what was believed to be several gunshots being fired, followed by a loud crash.

PC Kevon Hernandez and another officer who were on mobile patrol responded to the reports and found a white Nissan B13 car crashed into a tree and in flames near Building Seven. The vehicle was abandoned.

Following inquiries with residents in the area, it was learnt that a man dressed in all black was seen running from the vehicle.

Further investigations led the officers to the Arima District Hospital where a man had been checked in for gunshot injuries, however because of the severity of the wounds, he was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for further treatment.
