A SECONDARY school teacher was stabbed to death by a man whom she knew at her Cunupia home on Saturday evening.
Reena Ramsumair, 28, of Alexander Street, Cunupia a Spanish teacher who worked at the Couva East Secondary School died while undergoing surgery at the Chaguanas Health facility.
Police reports said that about 6 pm, Ramsumair was at home with her four-year-old son when the man whom she broke off a relationship recently, came into the house and an argument ensued.
Other relatives intervened when the argument grew heated but without warning, the man grabbed a knife and quickly stabbed Ramsumair in the neck before fleeing.
The young mother, was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility but was treated for injuries to her neck and later discharged. But reports said that Ramsumair within minutes had to be rushed back to the Health Centre after she began bleeding. While undergoing emergency surgery at the health facility, she died.
When Newsday visited the family home at Cunupia, grieving relatives described Ramsumair as a loving person. “I really don’t know how this could have happened. She was such a loving and understanding person,” cried a relative who asked not to be identified.
She said that Ramsumair also had plans to pursue a Masters degree in education. “She had such a passion for teaching and even offered extra lessons to help out students who needed it,” the relative said.
The relative said that they did not know why Ramsumair was killed. “We only got the message that she was stabbed after a dispute but I don’t know why,” she added.
Ramsumair was the eldest of four siblings. A post mortem is expected to be performed today at the Forensic Science Centre.
Up to late yesterday police were still searching for a 41-year-old man in connection with the murder.
