THE EDITOR: The enclosing of the drag and charging a fee of $60 by Pan Trinbago was not carefully thought out. When I saw the contractor erecting the fence and gates the previous weekend, I knew that it was not going to work.

Firstly, I said that the Fire Services will not give the all clear, since there were no emergency exits within the wall of the fence.

Secondly, how was one going to differentiate pushers, from pan player, from supporters? How could one tell real players from supportive or back-up players?

When our band approached the drag around 8 pm I noticed that it was a free for all at the gates. Upon further investigation, earlier pan players said the idea of collecting a fee was abandoned hours before.

Pan Trinbago must now tell us whether there was public tendering by contractors for erecting the fence; what was the cost of the job and whether they realistically hoped to realise a profit. My answer is, “I don’t think so.”

If the public discovers who and how the contract was awarded and at what cost to the taxpayers, then we will know how Trinidad and Tobago really operates.
