BLAMING the increase in vehicle maintenance plus deplorable road conditions, members of the Siparia maxi-taxi association have decided to raise the taxi fare by one dollar.

Effective from today, passengers travelling along the Siparia/San Fernando route will now pay $7.

President of the Siparia Maxi-Taxi Association Dhanan Bissoon explained that the increase was due to take effect at the end of 2009 but only following a recent meeting, members decided on the increase.

“Everything is getting more expensive every day and prices of vehicle parts are costly.

“The road especially in the Woodland area, is terrible. This increase was suppose to be done since last November.

“The last increase in taxi fare was three years ago,” Bissoon said.
