Beyonce arrives Ash Wednesday

By DARCEL CHOY Tuesday, February 9 2010

GRAMMY award winning artiste, Beyonce will arrive on Ash Wednesday, one day before her scheduled performance at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, concert sponsor TSTT’s manager of media relations Graeme Suite revealed yesterday.

However, Suite said he was not sure what time she would arrive. He noted that preparations for the concert are well underway and are on schedule in terms of construction of the stage. “Work is continuing on the stage and we also have construction starting this week on the roof of the stage,” Suite said.

Workers were yesterday seen offloading more scaffolding from a truck near a red and white crane. One man, who was inspecting the area said the crane was to be used to help in the construction of the stage which he revealed would be 77 feet by 56 feet.

Suite assured that all the necessary approvals have been given for the show to go on. This comes after erroneous reports stated that the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) did not grant a noise permit to TSTT for the concert.

“We notified the public of the intentions to apply for it on time, the application went in one time, and the EMA had no problems with it and we got the official approval from them last Friday (February 5) and we are very pleased with that development,” he said.

Also correcting the reports was the EMA which explained in a release that an application for a Noise Variation was received on January 21 from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources.

EMA CEO Joth Singh confirmed, “the application was received within the stipulated timelines and notices were placed in the newspapers notifying the public of the event as prescribed by the Noise Pollution Control Rules.”
