LOCAL Government Minister Hazel Manning, may well “throw some waist” in support of her Ministry’s J’ouvert band, “Throw Waiste Here”, on Carnival Monday.

Ministry communications specialist Deodath Ojah-Maharaj, hinted that Mrs Manning, the wife of Prime Minister Patrick Manning, could be jumping in the band. He told Newsday, “She might. She is expected to”.

Ojah-Maharaj did not say whether Mrs Manning would have her husband in tow.

He said permanent secretary Cheryl Blackman would also be playing. He described her as the driving force behind the band.

The band’s 100-plus revellers will jump to the music of deejay Black Tower Entertainment, before meeting CEPEP’s J’ouvert band.

A ministry statement said the band is a unique chance to market the reform of local government, including its new waste policy and to promote a green and clean environment. “The band will comprise employees and senior officials of the ministry, the special purpose companies and 14 municipal corporations, plus stakeholder Ministries and agencies,” added the statement.

Ojah-Maharaj said the band is designed by ministry employees at its Kent House Employees Club. He said people will depict aspects of waste.

The band assembles on J’ouvert morning at the corner of Tragarete Road and Alexandra Street in Port-of-Spain.
