HALF-a-century is just too long a wait for Government to respond to the problems facing residents of Pasquall Road, New Grant, they said yesterday.

They have been pleading for better roads and for repair work to be done on two bridges in the area.

For the past 15 years, two bridges at Pasquall Road have been deemed unsafe for use and residents are forced to travel four miles just to get out of Pasquall Road, using an alternative route.

Nicholas Jemmott said residents risk their lives on a daily basis by walking on two logs to get to the other side.

“If the residents do not do this they will have to travel for about four miles to reach the same distance. We tried every where for assistance to rebuild the bridges,” Jemmott told Newsday.

Jemmott said the situation is so bad that certain parts of the road in New Grant are covered in bush and resemble a dirt track more than a major road. Not only are Pasquall Road residents affected by the road condition, he said, but also several connecting roads, including St John’s Road and Piparo Road.

Jemmot, who lives at St John’s Road, complained that he has had to spend thousands of dollars to maintain his car.

“One week my car is working good and the next week it is sounding old. It is over 50 years the roads are like this. There are numerous potholes. It is hard for us to be spending,” Jemmott said.
