Senior attorney Martin Daly, SC was yesterday reinstalled as the president of the Law Association.
He plans now to carry on the worked he started during the 2008-2009 law term.
“Well I’m not looking to start anything new. There are a number of things we have started which we need to finish,” Daly said during an interview outside the Hall of Justice on Knox Street, Port-of-Spain.
At the association’s 24th Annual General Meeting, at the Convocation Hall, Alvin Fitzpatrick, SC replaced Hendrickson Seunath, SC as vice president.
Kemrajh Harrikissoon returned unopposed as treasurer.
Daly, who was unopposed as the president, identified the new civil proceeding rules as the biggest obstacle in the profession.
“There is now a lot of discontent at all levels of the profession both in Trinidad and Tobago. There is a lot of discontent about the operation of the civil proceedings rules,” he said.
He added, “There is a lot of work to be done...to make the profession familiar with all of the changes that have been done with the evidence laws. Particularly with recordings...what we call the audio visual rules.”
Daly said he was particularly pleased at the turnout of lawyers who went to vote on the new officers and council. This, he said, showed that members had a keen interest in the profession.
In the meeting, ten lawyers were elected as senior ordinary members, while five junior ordinary members completed the elected council.
