The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) yesterday said not all schools are in readiness for the opening of the new school term, but have gotten assurances they will be ready for the opening of school on Monday.

This was confirmed by First Vice President of TTUTA, Davanand Sinanan to Newsday yesterday.

Sinanan said TTUTA would receive more information on the status of schools currently under repair today. After the two months holiday, all teachers also returned to school yesterday.

Sinanan said TTUTA did not receive any adverse reports from any teacher on their first day back.

“So far everything went smoothly today and we hope this continues tomorrow,” said Sinanan.

He said teachers were asked to report to school two days before the official start of the new school year so they can engage in staff meetings, departmental meetings, planning for the scheme of work for the academic year and training work shops.

Sinanan said teachers were not affected by the ongoing repair and construction works at many schools, “because they conducted their business at other areas which were not being worked on.”

The staff was not affected by work going on at schools.
