Rape broadcast case July 16

Wednesday, June 27 2012

The case of the alleged television broadcast of a rape by Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne has been adjourned to July 16.

When the matter was called yesterday, the court heard that State attorney George Busby had been assigned to the case.

Busby told the court he needed time to review the contents of the case.

Alleyne, who is currently on $80,000 bail, faces three charges of breaching Section 32(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The charges stem from the alleged airing of a tape of a minor being raped on the Caribbean Communications Network (CCN) television station, TV6, on October 25 and 26 last year. Alleyne is also charged with resisting arrest.

Alleyne, through his attorney Om Lalla, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The talk show host was arrested and subsequently charged during an exercise in June on the compound of Express House, Port-of-Spain.

CCN was also slapped with three charges following the airing of the tape.

The company is being represented by Senior Counsel Sophia Chote and attorneys Michelle Solomon and Trevor Clarke.

The matter is being heard before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court.
