THE MOTHER of a 13-year-old student who was tricked into drinking a cocktail of softdrink mixed with the weedicide Lanate, at his school’s compound on Monday, said yesterday that she has forgiven the student who has since been charged and appeared in court for allegedly committing the act.

Nadine John said her son Jeremiah, a Form II student of the Blanchisseuse High School was discharged from the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope on Thursday and, has to return to the EWMSC for follow up treatment in two weeks time.

She said that doctors released her son on Thursday after several tests showed that he was out of medical danger.

The Maracas woman said she was relieved that her son survived the incident but at the same time has no ill feelings for the person who encouraged her son to drink the brew which could have cost him his life.

A 14-year-old student appeared before Arima Magistrate Lucina Cardinez-Ragoonanan on Thursday charged with administering poison to Jeremiah. He was granted bail in the sum of $40,000 and will reappear in court on July 16.

“I have no hatred for the accused and I believe that things will work out in the interest of all concerned,” Nadine said, adding that her son was back to his normal self but she has decided to keep him home to rest until the new school term in September.
