Despite the heavy rains and the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday yesterday more than 100 people visited the emergency camp at the Diego Martin Boys Roman Catholic School to be examined by doctors.

The camp was set up by the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), the Forum of Indian Nationals in Trinidad and Tobago (FINTT) and the Red Cross.

The relief efforts were aimed at bringing health care to those who were unable to visit the health facilities after the heavy rainfall that caused flooding and landslides last Saturday in north west Trinidad.

Vice president of the FINTT Dr M Sudhakar Reddy said residents affected by the floods were able to get their sugar, urine, blood pressure tests, general check-ups and, where necessary, ECGs as well.

He said the camp consisted of 75 doctors with different specialities together with social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and volunteers of the Red Cross.

Resident Maria Maharaj took the opportunity to get her pressure checked, since she was experiencing dizziness and headaches.
