SCHOOL'S OUT: Pupils of Our Lady of Laventille RC school take a time-out pose for Newsday's camera, on Laventille Road, Laventille, yesterday. ...

BEGINNING from today, and continuing until the next two weeks, Standard Five pupils of San Fernando Boys’ RC school will attend classes at the St Paul’s Anglican Primary School, while electrical works are expedited at the Boys RC.

Public Relations Officer of the school’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Tennile Leach, yesterday made the announcement at a meeting held at Bishop Mendes Auditorium on Harris Promenade, San Fernando. She also said the pupils of Standard Four would be temporarily housed in the auditorium until faulty electrical problems are addressed. “The teachers would be at St Paul’s Anglican on Ruth Avenue during the normal school hours. Standard Four students are expected to be at the auditorium. However from the Infant Department to Standard Three, we have not gotten anywhere for them,” Leach noted . As such, she added a meeting is scheduled at the auditorium for 4 pm today for parents of students from Infants to Standard Three.

On Monday and Tuesday parents protested over faulty wiring in the school building which prevented classes since the start of the new term last week Monday.

On Tuesday afternoon, National Security Minister, Jack Warner, met with some of the protesters and promised to communicate with line Minister of Education, Dr Tim Gopeesingh to resolve the problem. With a smile on her face, Leach yesterday said Warner made good on his promise, and contacted her the same evening.

“Mr Warner telephoned me and he also put me on to Mr Gopeesingh. They said they are aware of the problem, and would be sending a contractor named Nigel Chavez,” Leach added.
