The murder toll rose to 311 on Friday night with the killing of 29-year-old Kencis King in Morvant.

Police reported at about 9.20 pm, King, of Mahabir Court, Pelican Extension, Morvant, was liming with friends on the roadway, not far from his home, when the group was approached by a strange man. After a brief exchange of words between the two parties, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire on the group, hitting King several times about his body.

The assailant then fled the scene on foot. King was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The police were notified and a party of officers from the Morvant Police Station, North Eastern Division Task Force and Homicide Bureau of Investigations visited the scene. Investigators said King’s murder has left them puzzled as he was not “known to them” and was described by many in his community as a peaceful person.

Investigations are continuing.
